The event facilitates the exchange of ideas between industry and academia. \u201cI always look forward to this event as a learning and networking opportunity for students,\u201d says Dr. Maria Gherasimova, Chair of UB\u2019s Physics program and Director of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. \u201cIt is a chance to highlight the work done at UB.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gherasimova has been one of the Symposium organizers for the past decade, working to\u202fconnect UB to regional and national partners in industry and other universities. She is also the co-editor of the Symposium proceedings, which are regularly published as a special issue of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldscientific.com\/worldscinet\/ijhses\">International Journal of High Speed Electronics and Systems<\/a> (IJHSES) and as a book in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldscientific.com\/series\/stes\">\u201cSelected Topics in Electronics and Systems\u201d<\/a> series by World Scientific Publishing Co.<\/p>\n<p>UB students regularly contribute oral presentations and posters, benefiting from the exposure, experience, and networking opportunities provided by the event. In fact, they have won numerous awards over the years. In April 2017 and 2018, both Wafa Elmannai and Eugene Gerety won the Best Graduate Student Poster Award. Gerety\u2019s research on making two-dimensional bar codes more secure, more durable, and copy-proof is the sort of vital advance that will help humans navigate privacy and convenience in the coming decades. \u201cIn recent years, UB students have contributed excellent work to the Symposium, bringing home multiple best poster awards and other signs of recognition,\u201d says Dr. Gherasimova. \u201cIt is an indication of the high quality of the research done here at UB.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are doing cutting-edge work in the Department of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeport.edu\/academics\/programs\/computer-science-eng-phd\/\">Computer Science and Engineering<\/a>,\u201d agrees Dr. Khaled Elleithy, Dean of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeport.edu\/academics\/schools-colleges\/college-engineering-business-education\/\">College of Engineering, Business, and Education<\/a>. \u201cAnd it is important to have venues like this symposium to exhibit our research.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The 30th\u202fannual\u202fConnecticut Microelectronics and Optoelectronics Consortium (CMOC) Symposium will be held on March 9,
